A tragic three-vehicle accident in Waukesha has resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl and the arrest of a 19-year-old man on charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. According to Waukesha police, the suspect was speeding on Sunset Drive at approximately 7:25 p.m. when he ran a stop sign, colliding with two other cars and causing multiple injuries. The impact critically wounded the teenager, who later succumbed to her injuries after being transported to Froedtert Hospital, as reported by WISN.
The victim has been identified as Megan Voss, a distinguished senior at Waukesha West High School, renowned for her academic excellence and aspirations to enter the medical field. In the wake of the catastrophe, her high school principal, Taheréh DeLeón, expressed the community's profound loss, noting Megan's contribution of "positivity, enthusiasm, and kindness to our school." Her peers have rallied to remember Megan, leaving flowers and balloons at the crash site, according to a CBS 58 interview with her friend, Trianna Wenzel, who referred to Megan as "everyone's sunshine and my guardian angel now."
The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, exhibited signs of impairment during the accident and was taken into custody, facing allegations of operating while intoxicated. The Waukesha Police Department emphasized that the 19-year-old is likely to see a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, as detailled by JSOnline. The collision is still under investigation, with charges expected to be formally filed.
In addition to the emotional loss felt by those close to Megan, her dog Bleu was also a casualty of the accident, paralyzed and later euthanized due to pain. Megan had reportedly been a "foundation of the community at school," involved in numerous clubs with plans to pursue a degree at a Christian college in Arizona. She left a deep impact on her schoolmates, as they grappled with her sudden passing. Logan Wisialowski, one of Megan's friends, told CBS 58, "I like the way she spreads the word of God, too. That's something I appreciate." This sentiment was echoed across her community.
As Megan's friends and family begin to navigate their grief, a cross has been placed at the crash site in memory of her and her faith. The tragedy has left an indelible mark on the Waukesha West community, having to face the loss of another young life. An individual, who silently paid respects at the makeshift memorial but did not know Megan personally, reflected on his own loss from a decade earlier, underscoring the enduring sorrow such tragedies impart on families. The tragic incident has reinforced the devastating consequences of drunk driving, as the affected families prepare for a likely prolonged legal process.
