Amy Robinson, a 46-year-old woman from Waynesburg, has been charged with multiple offenses in connection with a fatal traffic collision that occurred last July in Downtown Pittsburgh. As per court documents, Robinson is accused of running a red light, an act which led to the death of 67-year-old motorcyclist James Christopher.
The tragedy unfolded on the morning of July 14, at the junction of Grant Street and Boulevard of the Allies, when Robinson's Ford F-150 collided with Christopher's Harley Davidson motorcycle, stated CBS News Pittsburgh. Driving through a red traffic signal that had been red for about nine seconds, Robinson caused the crash that later claimed Christopher's life due to multiple blunt impact injuries.
Surveillance footage and data from Robinson's truck's event record revealed critical details. As reported by WPXI, investigators used these tools to ascertain that Robinson ran the red light and did not apply the brakes before the collision. While speed wasn't a contributing factor, Robinson allegedly steadily accelerated even as she approached the signal.
Despite initially telling officers she had the green light and attempted to slam on the brakes, Robinson's account conflicted with the evidence gathered. The crash not only ended Christopher's life but also posed a significant risk to the two young girls in the truck with her, prompting charges of recklessly endangering another person, among other counts.
Apart from the serious charges of homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter, Robinson faces counts of reckless driving and running a red light.
