Faith Newton, 56, from Westford, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for her involvement in a health care fraud scheme through her company, Arbor Homecare Services LLC. She was also ordered to pay $99,734,517 million in restitution and a $250,000 fine. Newton was convicted in July 2024 of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, one count of health care fraud, and three counts of money laundering, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
From January 2013 to January 2017, Newton defrauded MassHealth by billing over $100 million for fake health services. He used patients for fake referrals, paid kickbacks, and created false job relationships with family members to submit bogus claims for unnecessary home health aide services, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Newton stole funds from MassHealth by paying herself and her husband large amounts from the company account after MassHealth denied coverage for Arbor. She tried to cover up the theft by backdating checks. Newton was sentenced, while her co-defendant, Waruru, is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty. The FBI, IRS, and Health Department worked together to address the crime and prevent future exploitation of health care programs, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
