To bolster connections between law enforcement and the local Hispanic community, the White Settlement Police Department has announced the launch of the UNIDOS program, a new initiative focusing on community engagement and resource sharing. The program, designed after a platform created by Allen Police Chief Steve Dye in 2002, aims to address the unique needs and concerns of Spanish-speaking residents in the west Fort Worth and White Settlement area.
With an emphasis on practical advice and support, UNIDOS, according to the White Settlement Police Department, will cover a slew of topics relevant to day-to-day living—ranging from navigating the U.S. banking system, understanding home buying and renting processes, to immigration and insurance specifics; the program also encompasses guidance on obtaining driver’s licenses, recognizing common scams, vehicle registration and emissions testing, and leveraging local parks and recreation facilities.
The White Settlement Law Enforcement Center will serve as the host for UNIDOS meetings, which are planned every month, with the kick-off launch event scheduled for today at 6 p.m. For those interested in attending or seeking additional information, Corporal Laura Gonzalez is available for contact via email at [email protected] or by phone at 817-246-7070 x418.
