A tragic accident on Paradise Road claimed the life of a young man last evening, marking the 12th traffic-related fatality of the year in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction. At around 6:57 p.m. yesterday, a Dodge Challenger was involved in a multiple-vehicle incident on the section of the road undergoing construction for lane merges and closures.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Challenger, driven by a 20-year-old male whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was speeding southbound when it made an abrupt lane change. This maneuver caused the vehicle to collide with a concrete barrier, then overturn and subsequently impact a Kia Forte and a Nissan Pathfinder.
The driver of the Kia, identified as 20-year-old Georgia Barrett, escaped unharmed while Tinesha Trabelsi, 46, driver of the Nissan, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. The tragic sequence of events was set in motion by what seems to be a momentary lapse in judgement mixed with the inherent dangers present in a construction zone.
Emergency responders extricated the driver of the Dodge and performed life-saving measures but were unable to save him. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The collision has prompted further investigation by the LVMPD's Collision Investigation Section.
