A tragic event unfolded on a Hillsborough County interstate yesterday, when a 26-year-old Zephyrhills woman was killed in a crash. The accident, which occurred close to 12:50 p.m. on southbound I-275 near Waters Avenue, involved the woman's vehicle striking an abandoned car on the roadway's shoulder.
According to WFLA News, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that the woman veered onto the outside shoulder colliding with a Dodge Dart that had been left abandoned there. The impact caused the Dodge to be propelled across the interstate, while the woman's vehicle, a Kia Sportage, flipped over, coming to rest on the shoulder.
The driver was rushed to a local hospital but sadly did not survive. Officials are still investigating why she lost control of her Kia and why the Dodge Dart was abandoned on the shoulder. The FHP continues to examine the factors behind the crash.
FHP did not comment on how the accident affected interstate traffic. Traffic patterns, commutes, and the silent flow of a city can all hinge, momentarily, on the chaos wrought in the blink of an eye, FOX 13 News reported that it is still unknown why the Dodge Dart was abandoned or how the crash affected traffic flow on I-275.
Additional information from Pasco News Online confirms the Florida Highway Patrol's ongoing investigation efforts to shed light on the circumstances of the crash.
