Eleven Peachtree Corners residents have been displaced following an apartment fire believed to have been sparked by a cooking mishap. The blaze, reported late last night at the Rosemont Peachtree Corners Apartments, resulted in significant property damage but no physical injuries, as confirmed by Gwinnett County fire officials.
Upon arriving at the 3769 Elmside Village Lane location after a distress call at 9:36 p.m., firefighters discovered flames visible on all levels of the two/three-story multifamily complex. According to WSBTV's report, two apartments were moderately damaged, while another sustained heavy fire damage. Smoke and water also heavily affected seven additional units.
The individual who alerted authorities told officials he was cooking and had to temporarily leave the room. "When he returned to the kitchen, he found the room filled with smoke and a spotted a fire on the stove," reported FOX 5 Atlanta. Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services have since underscored the importance of vigilance while cooking, suggesting residents use timers and never to leave food unattended on the stove or in the oven.
While some 20 individuals were evacuated from the beleaguered building by Gwinnett County Police, no injuries were reported. Displaced by the incident, the 11 adults impacted are currently receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, as per WSBTV. The cause of the fire, rooted in what appears to have been an all too common yet preventable kitchen mishap, has been deemed an accident by authorities.
