A week of tension and protest in downtown Los Angeles took a grim turn last week when a 14-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly stabbing a 17-year-old at an immigrants' rights rally near City Hall. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated the incident occurred last Friday just after 1:30 p.m. along the 200 block of North Spring Street, as per CBS News Los Angeles. After being found with a stab wound, the victim was rushed to the hospital by paramedics from the L.A. Fire Department where he remained in critical condition.
Footage captured by a bystander, who Sky5 flew over the scene after the violence broke out, showed at least one brawl in the rally's aftermath. A witness known only as Will told KTLA that the suspect did not appear to be part of the peaceful demonstration that included several hundred people and that they had filmed the entire incident on their camera.
Echoing this, Esteban Perez captured video of the attack and said, "He was antagonizing the crowd," implying that the suspect was deliberately provoking the demonstrators, as reported by FOX LA.
In the wake of the attack, some have questioned the implications it has for the broader movement. Julio Rosas with Blaze Media, while having witnessed the attack, speculated on whether the violence seen over several days might detract from the demonstration's message. "If you're really trying to convince people that you don't want these deportations to happen, why are you allowing these things to happen as a movement," Rosas said in a statement obtained by FOX LA.
