A tragic incident unfolded in Sunnyside, Queens, where a 14-year-old boy was fatally stabbed during a confrontation. Julian Corniell, also 14, of South Jamaica, succumbed to his injuries after being stabbed in his abdomen, following an altercation that originated in a local McDonald’s and escalated outdoors near 38th Street and Queens Boulevard. The incident took place around 3:30 p.m. yesterday. ABC 7 New York reports, that the victim was urgently transported to NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center, however, later died as a result of the wounds.

Law enforcement officials have apprehended a peer of the victim — another 14-year-old — who now faces charges of first-degree gang assault, according to police sources, it remains uncertain whether this stabbing was gang-related. The motives behind the violent episode are under active investigation. Police have not yet released any further details regarding whether the suspect and Corniell were acquainted. A knife was located on the street near the scene of the crime, its connection to the stabbing is still being determined, The New York Post adds.

The New York Police Department has confirmed that the physical confrontation began inside the McDonald’s establishment before spilling outside. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together the circumstances leading to this deadly encounter.
