
A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Tanaejah Atterbury in Fort Lauderdale. NBC Miami reports the teenager was charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder following the shooting that happened on Monday last week. Witnesses said a street fight involving several people took place on Northwest 8th Avenue when the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and fired into the crowd, hitting Atterbury, who was a bystander.
The incident was reported when Fort Lauderdale Police responded to a 911 call. "Oh my God, oh my God! I need an ambulance on 8th Avenue please," the caller is heard saying in the released call, according to NBC Miami. The victim was transported to Broward Health Medical Center but later died from her injuries.
Fort Lauderdale Police’s Fugitive Unit arrested the 17-year-old suspect, Isaiah Frazier. As reported by WSVN, a video showed the chaos of the fight, with people seen fighting and scattering as shots were fired.
"All I thought, my baby, was they hit her, but when I picked her up, I saw the blood, and she said, 'Mommy, I’m OK, I’m OK,'" Tanaejah's mother, Sharday Heller, told NBC Miami.
