20 Years Later, Jacksonville Boys' Disappearance Unresolved as New Age-Progressed Photos ReleasedSource: National Center for Missing & Exploited Children

Today marked two decades since the unresolved disappearance of Mark Degner and Bryan Hayes, who were last seen walking away from Paxon Middle School in Jacksonville. Brittany Degner vividly recalls the day, February 10, 2005, as she was doing homework when her mom inquired about her brother Mark's whereabouts, as he hadn't come home on the school bus. "We can't find your brother anywhere, so I began searching the neighborhood in case he got off the bus and roamed the neighborhood and I couldn't find him anywhere," Brittany Degner told First Coast News.

Despite her efforts, and thorough investigations led by the police, no evidence of the boys' whereabouts was uncovered. Witnesses last spotted the two, aged 12 and 13 respectively, around 1:30 p.m. that afternoon, and they appeared to be alone. The community gathered, quickly creating signs, and a search was carried out, but it was unsuccessful. Reflecting on the efforts, Brittany Degner raised a question in a statement provided to First Coast News, "What do we do from here? How do we find answers?"

Part of the ongoing efforts to locate Degner and Hayes include newly released age progression photos depicting what they may look like now, at the ages of 32 and 33, according to News4Jax. These images offer a chance that someone may recognize the long-missing boys. While there have been reported sightings over the years, the cases remain open and unsolved.

A $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the recovery of the boys. The age-progressed photos of Bryan Hayes on the left and Mark Degner on the right represent what they might have become. These details, along with the reward, were confirmed by Action News Jax.
