The Kent Police Department made progress in a homicide case by capturing a suspect wanted in Alabama for the death of 37-year-old Cornelis Smith. Authorities received a tip that led them to the suspect's location in Kent in December. According to KING 5 News, Kent officers worked with Alabama law enforcement, who identified the suspect as the shooter in Smith's homicide.
Following the tip, Kent police found the suspect at a hotel on 83rd Avenue South. "When he noticed the patrol cars entering the lot he quickly tried to walk away. Too late," the Kent Police Department told KIRO 7. Despite his attempt to flee, the suspect was detained without further incident after being ordered to stop.
KOMO News reported that the suspect's arrest was classified as a "Fugitive from Justice" arrest. He is now in custody at the county jail, awaiting extradition to Alabama.
