The Harris County District Attorney's Office has dropped all charges against Eric Sim, a former NASA aerospace engineer, citing a lack of sufficient evidence. Sim was accused of seven counts of sexual assault between 2019 and 2022. The accusers said they met him on dating apps, including Hinge, East Meets East, and OkCupid. Prosecutors previously claimed Sim threatened to release videos of their encounters if they reported him. Sim's defense denied the allegations, according to Click2Houston and KHOU 11.
Charges against Sim were dropped after an 11-month investigation involving terabytes of data. One case was dropped at the victim's request, while the others were dismissed due to insufficient evidence. The District Attorney’s office stated, "The survivors in these cases are our priority. They are the victims of predatory acts, and we stand firm in recognizing their trauma. Forcing them to relive their pain in a public courtroom serves no purpose." Sim's attorney, Neal Davis, said, "The question I have for Kim Ogg is, 'Where does my client go back to get his reputation that she's destroyed with her press conferences, media leaks and statements to the media?" KHOU 11 reported that they have contacted Ogg for comment and are awaiting a response.
Amid the legal proceedings, NASA had confirmed that Sim was no longer employed with them, regardless, he was known for his part in a viral "Gangnam Style" parody video. Despite the dismissal of charges, Davis acknowledged that the damage to Sim's reputation may be irreversible, telling Click2Houston, "This whole thing devastated (Sim). He lost his job, lived under house arrest for a year, and his life was on hold."
