Commuters who traverse the downtown Arlington area should brace for disruptions as Union Pacific plans a complete closure of the railroad crossing on Cooper Street. This closure is part of the railroad's maintenance work which includes replacing concrete track panels. The City of Arlington has announced that the crossing will be shut down from midnight to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, and again from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20. This could potentially create significant traffic congestion for those who usually pass through this section of the city.
According to a social media post by the City of Arlington, TX - City Hall, during these periods when Cooper Street is closed, drivers will need to find alternative routes. The stretch between Division Street and Main Street will be affected. The City has suggested other north-south railroad crossings that remain open, which include West Street, Center and Mesquite Streets, Collins Street, and Stadium Drive.
The closure is a necessary step for Union Pacific, as maintenance of railway infrastructure is critical for the safety of both the trains that use these tracks and the vehicles and pedestrians in the surrounding area. Regular updates and further information can be tracked through the City of Arlington's official communication channels.
