A violent altercation in the Terra Linda Safeway parking lot led to a police chase and the arrest of two adults and a juvenile yesterday afternoon. The conflict, which involved firearms and a physical assault, initiated a pursuit that concluded with engine failure on the suspects’ vehicle in San Francisco, as reported by the San Rafael Police Department.

According to the San Rafael Police Department, the incident began just after 2:15 P.M., when three suspects, two adults and a juvenile, confronted two victims and subsequently engaged in a scuffle. During the confrontation, handguns were brandished, and one victim was struck in the head with the butt of a gun. Although the suspects fled, no shots were reported to have been fired. In the aftermath of the incident, an automated license plate reader camera network was employed to locate the getaway vehicle.

A San Rafael police officer spotted the suspect vehicle downtown, and when an attempt to stop the suspect failed, a pursuit was initiated. The chase proceeded onto US-101 southbound towards the Golden Gate Bridge, where California Highway Patrol took the helm, but with continued support from SRPD officers. The chase stopped on Presidio Parkway because the suspect's vehicle suffered from a mechanical engine failure.

All three suspects attempted to evade capture following the vehicle malfunction but were quickly apprehended. One of the individuals was found in possession of a backpack containing "three loaded handguns and one loaded assault weapon," per the San Rafael Police Department’s statement. Among these weapons was a so-called ghost gun, which lacks a serial number and is therefore challenging to trace. The suspects are looking at multiple felony charges, including assault with a firearm and possession of an un-serialized gun. The adults involved are also facing felony child endangerment charges.

The victim, who suffered a head injury from the gun, was reportedly not seriously harmed and declined hospitalization. While the motive behind the attack has yet to be disclosed, early investigations indicate that there was some prior acquaintance between the suspects and the victims. San Rafael Police urge anyone with further information to contact at (415) 485-3000 or via their online tip form.
