The City of Atlanta has introduced a new Employee Bill of Rights along with a guide to help city employees during independent administrative investigations. This initiative, part of Mayor Andre Dickens' commitment to ethical and effective governance, provides clear guidelines for employees navigating city-led inquiries.
According to WSB-TV, the Employee Bill of Rights marks Mayor Dickens' first effort to establish formal employee protocols. It outlines the process for appealing decisions or contesting actions made by the Ethics Office or the Inspector General's Office, including challenging subpoenas. Dickens said, "Consistent with my fourth pillar of Ethical and Effective government, the creation of the Bill of Rights will help all employees understand their rights within the City."
As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the new guide clarifies the roles of the Office of the Inspector General, the Office of Ethics, the Department of Human Resources, and the City Auditor's Office. Mayor Dickens explained, "As an advocate for—and someone who worked directly on—both the creation of the Office of Inspector General and the City’s Department of Labor, the accompanying guide balances transparency and accountability for the City’s public servants, while making clear their rights and responsibilities."
The guide provides city employees with a document that explains their rights, responsibilities, and available resources, supporting a culture of trust and accountability within municipal departments. This initiative is part of the city's ongoing efforts to establish a transparent framework, as emphasized by the administration.
