The Austin Police Department has issued an appeal to the public for aid in identifying a man allegedly involved in a robbery at a mobile store in South Austin earlier this month. According to CBS Austin, the suspect entered the Metro PCS by T-Mobile store located at 500 W. William Cannon Drive on February 7th at around 3:50 p.m., where he supposedly attempted to abscond with several Bluetooth speakers.
Previously shoplifted in November 2024, the employees recognized the suspect when he requested information about the speakers. Descriptions provided by the APD list the suspect as a white male, approximately 30-40 years old, with a beard, dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, and standing about 5'10". The attempt to steal this time culminated in an altercation where, before fleeing the location on foot, the suspect shoved an employee, striking her with the merchandise when the employee stood between him and the doorway—a move that left her with minor, but discernible injuries.
The APD's Robbery Unit urges anyone with pertinent information to step forward and contact them at 512-974-5092 or submit tips anonymously via the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, which could potentially lead to a reward of up to $1,000. In a similar vein, FOX 7 Austin reports that the suspect was last seen dressed in a green polo shirt, a black baseball cap sporting a black Puma logo, black pants, a COVID mask, and dark-colored sneakers with white soles—and is thought to have run eastbound on W. William Cannon Drive toward S. 1st Street.
Despite the obstacle, the employee, when the suspect pushed her and used the stolen goods as an improvised weapon, caused her to sustain minor injuries. The suspect's description also hinted at the possibility of homelessness. The community's assistance is of paramount importance as the APD continues to investigate the robbery and hold the individual accountable for the disturbance at the mobile store, emphasizing the importance of any leads that could facilitate an arrest and restore a measure of safety to the neighborhood in South Austin.
