The Austin Police Department is reaching out to the community for help in tracking down a man involved in an attempted sexual assault earlier this month. According to the official report, the incident took place on the 6900 block of FM 969 Road on February 8 around 9:30 a.m.
According to the victim’s account provided to the police, the suspect engaged in a sexually aggressive manner and then fled the scene. The suspect in question is a Black male, thought to be in his 20s, with a medium to heavy build, standing somewhere between 5’6” and 5’9”, and weighing in at about 200 lbs. Running away, the man was last seen dressed in a black sweatshirt and black pants.
APD officials have released a sketch of the suspect in hopes that someone might recognize him and come forward with information. The Sex Crimes Unit at APD is handling the investigation and asks anyone who might have any relevant details to call 512-974-5095. Tips can also be given anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting their website or calling 512-472-8477. It is noted that information leading to an arrest could result in a reward of up to $1,000.
The Austin community, often shaken by crimes of this nature, is encouraged by the police to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. As stated by the police in their ongoing efforts to apprehend the suspect, "Anyone with any information should contact APD's Sex Crimes Unit."
