Residents of Boca Raton have an upcoming opportunity to protect their personal information from identity thieves, courtesy of a collaborative effort between local law enforcement and a private corporation. Slated for Saturday, March 15, the Boca Raton Police Services Department is teaming up with Microshred Corporation to offer a free document shredding event for community members looking to securely dispose of sensitive paperwork.

According to an announcement by the City of Boca Raton, this public service is set to take place at the 6500 Building, located at 6500 Congress Avenue, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The event is exclusively open to residential participants, and each household can bring up to five banker’s sized boxes of documents to be destroyed on-site. In a display of community outreach, Microshred will have their trucks ready and waiting to turn those old tax forms and bank statements into confetti. Additionally, the BRPD’s Community Engagement Unit will be on hand to provide helpful advice for preventing identity theft.

For those unable to attend the event, the authorities encourage every household to arm themselves with a quality cross-cut shredder. "Shredding documents is a key step in identity theft prevention," authorities emphasized, as reported by the City of Boca Raton's website. Community members seeking further details or who may have questions about the event can reach out to the Boca Raton Police Community Engagement Unit at 561-347-3938 for assistance and information.
