Bostonians, brace yourselves for a weekend of heavy snowfall as a winter storm is set to hit the region with significant accumulations expected. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch that remains in effect from tomorrow evening through Sunday afternoon, with heavy snow and total accumulations of 5 to 8 inches possible across northern Connecticut, Massachusetts, excluding the Berkshires and the Cape and islands, as well as all of Rhode Island except for Block Island.
The NBC Boston's forecast suggests that the weather conditions are set to deteriorate rapidly over the weekend, with tomorrow seeing an increase in cloud cover as the storm approaches New England. By late tomorow evening, the storm is expected to bring a swift onslaught of snow, which could pile up at rates of 1-2 inches per hour, especially through midnight and into the early hours of Sunday. It’s not just Sunday that Boston residents need to worry about; more disruptions are anticipated next week with risks of other storms, particularly on Thursday and next weekend.
Today's weather in Boston, however, remains mostly sunny and windy with gusts as high as 38 mph, while temperatures hover around the mid to upper 30s. According to the National Weather Service, tonight will shift to mostly clear skies with lows dropping to around 21 degrees, and a west wind blowing at 6 to 10 mph.
Travel disruptions are a significant concern with these predicted weather conditions, as heavy snow could make commutes very difficult. In preparation, residents are advised to monitor the latest forecasts for updates.
