The Boston weather forecast promises a return to what could be deemed a semblance of a winter norm, with clear skies and progressively milder temperatures. According to the National Weather Service, today's forecast in Boston predicts mostly sunny skies with a high near 33 degrees and brisk northwest winds of 15 to 17 mph, featuring gusts as strong as 32 mph. Tonight, Bostonians can expect mostly clear conditions with a low of around 16 degrees and continued northwest winds from 10 to 15 mph.
As the weather shifts, the weekend tees up a mild respite from the cold. The city notably dodged a storm with only a few snow showers present overnight along Cape Cod and the Islands. Now with the storm past, weather patterns will ease up, ushering in a moderate warmup. The National Weather Service anticipates a sunny Saturday, with temperatures rising to the upper thirties and calmer west winds blowing between 8 and 10 mph. By Sunday, partly sunny skies will remain as temperatures continue to nudge close to 39 degrees.
The gradual warming trend will not only offer Boston residents a break from the chill but is also expected to persist into next week. "We'll enjoy storm-free weather and low/mid 40s straight through Wednesday," NBC Boston reports. Looking ahead, Thursday might stir up some weather activity, yet milder temperatures suggest rain is likely to be the more prominent event instead of snow.
This reprieve from freezing temperatures also brings with it a benefit to the local environment. The "slow melt is awesome news for our drought," shared by NBC Boston, as the slower thaw allows for a gradual percolation of meltwater into aquifers, reservoirs, rivers, and streams—an ideal scenario that also mitigates the risk of flooding due to controlled refreezes at night. Consequently, the forecast up to Wednesday hints at mostly sunny to cloudy skies with highs ranging from the upper forties to high twenties at night, according to the National Weather Service.
