In Boulder County, the trio of County Commissioners, comprised of Claire Levy, Marta Loachamin, and Ashley Stolzmann, have made a promise for the new year that seeks to underscore their dedication toward inclusivity and equality. The statement made by the Commissioners comes at a time when civil rights and safety are perceived to be under threat for certain groups across the nation, particularly for immigrants and members of the LGBTQ+ community, and it positions Boulder County as an ally and protector of individuals within these communities, including "transgender people, both inside and outside of the county," according to Boulder County.
The Commissioners' resolve, as laid out in their statement, is built on a long-standing narrative of unity and mutual support which Boulder County residents have historically displayed in times of adversity, be it natural calamities or societal turmoil, such as the King Soopers Shooting and the COVID-19 pandemic, people of Boulder County has shown strength and kindness, empathy in numerous forms that made county leaders take pride in their duty. "The people of Boulder County have a long history of coming together in support of each other," the Commissioners noted, as obtained by Boulder County, further detailing the county's commitment to supporting people irrespective of their race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, gender identity, and other personal attributes.
This amplified focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is embodied in ongoing programs that Boulder County is determined to sustain, such as the observance of heritage months, the most current being Black History Month. Acknowledging that the past and present of these communities are interwoven into America's broader narrative, Boulder County pledges to celebrate the contributions of the diverse groups that make our county strong, successful, and resilient, ensuring that the successes and tragedies of these groups are recognized and honored.
