A high-speed chase on I-95 Sunday night ended with a crash and the arrest of Boynton Beach man Rom Landon. According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, published by BocaNewsNow, Trooper Herrera observed Landon driving at high speeds, leading to charges including "flee/elude police causing injury or death" and "drug possession."
Trooper Herrera’s report states that Landon’s vehicle was speeding significantly faster than surrounding traffic and making dangerous lane changes before a chase began. The vehicle eventually lost control, causing a crash that injured people in other vehicles. Landon reportedly fled on foot, leading to a search and his eventual capture. Police found a white ski mask in his possession, and his injuries matched those described in the incident.
The crash and subsequent events led to property damage and injuries, as well as Landon’s arrest. After the chase, Landon claimed he was carjacked, but evidence, including the ski mask and surveillance footage, contradicted his story.
After being arrested and read his Miranda rights, Landon chose to stop answering questions but later confessed, according to the statement obtained by BocaNewsNow. When asked why he didn't stop the vehicle, he explained that he didn't want his license to be suspended due to accumulating points, so he decided to flee instead.
Landon is currently being held on a bond of over $15,000. The Recently Booked report confirms Landon was booked on Monday for charges related to fleeing and eluding police, causing injury or death. The report clarifies that this is an arrest record, not an implication of guilt for any other actions.
