
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has recently elevated Brian Dismukes to the role of Assistant Chief within its Infrastructure Operations Division. Originally joining the department in 1994, Dismukes' career has spanned over three decades, ranging from roles as a Highway Patrol Trooper to his prior position as Major and Human Resources Director, according to information available on DPS official website.
DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin commended Dismukes in a statement procured by the DPS newsroom, "Brian Dismukes has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment throughout his 30-year career with the department." Reflecting on his path forward, Martin believes that "His wealth of experience and dedication make him the right choice to help lead our Infrastructure Operations Division." Such endorsement from Colonel Martin signifies not just confidence in Dismukes' past achievements but an assignment served with expectations for stewardship in a division pivotal to the state's functioning.
Dismukes' journey with the DPS began as a second-generation officer, where he served as a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper before delving into the Criminal Investigations Division as a Narcotics Service Sergeant in 2003. His track record continued with a transfer to the CID Training Unit in 2016 and subsequent promotion to CID Lieutenant in 2017. Dismukes roots in the department provide him a solid base, standing at DPS headquarters in Austin from which to expand his legacy.
Prior to his latest appointment, Dismukes accepted a promotion to Captain in Human Resource Operations at Austin headquarters in 2020, playing a pivotal role in personnel development and operational strategy. This expertise and dedication led to a further promotion to Major and Director of HRO in 2024, a testament to the trajectory of his leadership acumen. A seasoned professional, Dismukes not only possesses a Master Peace Officer license through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement but also boasts educational credentials from Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command and the recognition of the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award.
