In Carrollton, the local Fire Rescue team has upgraded its firefighting arsenal with a fleet of new vehicles designed to enhance emergency response across the city. According to the City of Carrollton, Carrollton Fire Rescue (CFR) has introduced nine new vehicles to its lineup, including ambulances, fire engines, and a state-of-the-art Heavy-Duty Tiller Aerial Ladder truck. This rollout replaces aging equipment, ensuring that CFR maintains top-notch service for Carrollton's residents.
Last year, CFR’s call sheets totaled nearly 16,000 incidents, brilliantly outpacing their previous years. To meet this growing demand efficiently, the fire department must regularly update its equipment. The Tiller truck, capable of extending its ladder up to 107 feet vertically and requiring two operators to communicate and effectively steer its separate axles, promises to up the ante when maneuvering through tight spaces—which could prove critical, especially as Carrollton's landscape evolves with more confined streets and taller buildings.
The city's announcement highlighted the Tiller's numerous features beyond its impressive reach and maneuverability. With increased storage space for various emergency equipment and power outlets for charging essential tools, the truck is positioned to be a versatile addition to the fleet. Moreover, the Tiller includes an on-board generator, illustrating CFR's dedicated approach to preparing for any incident, from structural collapses to water rescues.
