Euless has officially named Chris Barker as the city's new city manager, a position he steps into after having been a part of the city's growth and administration for several decades. Starting in 1997 as the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, Barker's climb up the municipal ladder includes roles in various departments such as Parks and Community Services, Public Works, and Planning and Economic Development. In this trajectory of public service, Barker also held the roles of Assistant City Manager since 2011 and Deputy City Manager since February 2020.
Barker's academic foundation was laid at Texas A&M University, and He also contributed his involvement with professional associations. He's linked with the International City/County Management Association and the Texas City Manager's Association in city management. He also serves areas outside the immediate confines of civic administration through engagements like the Northeast Leadership Forum and the Rotary Club of Hurst, Euless, and Bedford.
"I'm truly honored for the opportunity to serve as the City Manager of Euless, a community made up of amazing citizens, hardworking and talented employees, and strong, supportive leadership," Barker expressed in his statement, as detailed by the City of Euless, regarding the appointment. He continued, "Together, we'll continue to foster an environment where teamwork and innovation thrive naturally. I'm deeply grateful to the City Council for their trust and support, and I'm excited to build on the legacy of collaboration and dedication that makes Euless such a wonderful and welcoming community."
Meanwhile, as per the city's press release, Mayor Linda Martin has publicly endorsed Barker, suggesting continuity is in store for Euless under his management: "As a longtime employee, Chris has had the opportunity to work with and learn from the exemplary leadership that came before him, and I have no doubt he is going to do a fabulous job for us." The leadership's affirmation of Barker signals an unwavering confidence in his vision for Euless and its denizens.
