Last night, a high-speed motorcycle chase through the streets of Citrus Heights ended with one person in custody, thanks to the combined efforts of local law enforcement and technological assistance. According to Citrus Heights PD's social media, the incident began close to midnight when officers attempted to stop a motorcycle for reportedly speeding. The rider, however, chose to escape, igniting a pursuit that saw speeds exceed 90mph.
As the chase continued for several miles, the suspect abandoned the motorcycle, opting instead for escape on foot, jumping over fences in a residential area. Patrol units, in response to the situation, set up a perimeter around the neighborhood. With the aid of K9 Kash and a drone equipped with thermal imaging, they moved in to apprehend the fugitive. As they closed in, the suspect, hiding between a shed and a fence in the backyard of a home was discovered. "Upon hearing that K9 Kash was going to be released by his handler, the suspect quickly gave up and was taken into custody," detailed the Citrus Heights PD post.
The 41-year-old suspect, now detained, faces several charges that include the felony of evading arrest. Transported to the County Jail, the individual's attempt at outrunning the long arm of the law came to an abrupt end.
Acknowledgments were given by the Citrus Heights police for the aid received from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. The deputies provided crucial support in maintaining the perimeter, allowing CHPD units to successfully conclude the chase. "Great collaboration and teamwork by everyone involved," the Citrus Heights PD expressed.
