The aquatic hub of the Long Center is set for a revamp, as the City of Clearwater embarks on a renovation project for its Natatorium, scheduled to commence on Feb. 18. As announced by the city, the Long Center pools will be off-limits to the public until Spring 2026 to allow for comprehensive upgrades. Although swimmers might have to take a temporary splash elsewhere, other on-site facilities, including the fitness center, gymnasium, and Aging Well Center, will continue operations without interruption.
Season pass holders should not feel left out in the cold. Even with the indoor pool enclosure shut down, their membership privileges are being honored across other city aquatic centers. As specified by the City of Clearwater's announcement, Morningside and Ross Norton pools — both equipped with heaters — are stepping up to fill the gap. They are set to welcome lap swimmers seven days a week, offering a heated respite from the renovation hiatus.
Local swimmers have expressed a mix of anticipation and inconvenience. While some are eager to see what improvements the renovations will bring, others are concerned about the disruption to their daily routines. The city has assured that measures are in place to mitigate any inconvenience, specifically through the extension of operational hours at alternative pools.
These alternative services might come as a relief for the community's regular aquatic enthusiasts. Clearwater residents dependent on the Long Center for their swimming regimen can rest assured, their passholder status extends beyond the confines of the renovation. With this arrangement, the city aims to maintain continuity for its residents' fitness habits, demonstrating a responsive approach to community needs during periods of public service disruption.
