The tragic demise of local Cleveland rapper Carlos Banks has led to a flurry of legal activity, with 25-year-old Devon Jones now formally charged with a host of crimes, including aggravated murder, following an indictment by a Cuyahoga County grand jury. In a statement obtained by the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, Prosecutor Michael C. O'Malley outlined the charges against Jones, which also encompass murder, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, aggravated robbery, burglary, kidnapping, abduction, and weapons possession violations. Jones' alleged deeds culminated in the loss of Banks' life in late December last year.
The detailed events leading up to the crime paint a chilling picture, revealing that on December 29, 2024, Jones, alongside unidentified accomplices, is accused of formulating a plan to rob Banks, who resided in an apartment at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Fowler Avenue, this plan which involved the kidnapping of a 30-year-old woman to secure entry into the building; following their forced entry, they reportedly confronted Banks, robbed, and shot him several times before escaping, according to information provided by authorities. The Cleveland Division of Police and Cleveland EMS were called to the scene, where Banks was pronounced dead.
Following a diligent manhunt, Jones was apprehended on January 16, 2025, in Pennsylvania by the U.S. Marshals.
