A Clinton Township man, Steven Bryce Wheeler, 31, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the first-degree murder of his wife. He was also given a consecutive two-year sentence for a felony firearm conviction. The case began with a shooting in October 2023, and Wheeler was found guilty by a jury in January. He was sentenced on Wednesday, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
Authorities reported that the incident happened during a domestic dispute in which Wheeler's wife called 911 after he assaulted her. While she was on the phone, she was shot five times in the head. The couple's young children ran from the house after hearing the gunshots. According to the Macomb County, a jury convicted Wheeler after a six-day trial led by Assistant Prosecutors Kumar Palepu and Kelsey Heath.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido addressed the case, stating, "This was a senseless and brutal act of violence that took the life of an innocent woman and forever shattered the lives of her loved ones. No punishment can ever undo the pain and loss this family has endured. I hope this conviction sends a clear message that domestic violence will not be tolerated, and we remain committed to seeking justice for victims and their families," he told Macomb County. On Wednesday, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Julie Gatti sentenced Wheeler to a life sentence, which will begin after he serves a two-year felony firearm sentence. The conviction concludes a legal process focused on addressing domestic violence cases.
