A tragic incident unfolded on the east side of Columbus, resulting in a fatality after a reported domestic situation escalated into a shooting. Officers responded to a call at approximately 6:55 p.m. on the 1500 block of Baxter Drive, according to NBC4i. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Gary Tyler Lyons, was found with a gunshot wound and was subsequently transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m., adding another chapter to the city's ongoing struggle with gun violence.
Upon arrival at the scene, Columbus police detained the victim's parents, who are cooperating with the investigation, as per a statement provided to WBNS by Columbus Division of Police Commander Paul Szabo. The investigation is being considered a possible case of self-defense, which, upon conclusion, will be reviewed by the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if a grand jury will be convened.
At the moment, details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain under tight examination by the authorities. However, Lyons' parents were questioned shortly after the incident, as specified by a public information officer with the Columbus Police Department and reported by ABC6.
