Travel Texas has announced that the City of Corpus Christi has been named a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. Governor Greg Abbott acknowledged the city's recognition, noting the importance of tourism to Texas's economy, with one in 11 jobs in the state linked to the industry. Corpus Christi received the designation after completing the certification process introduced by Travel Texas in its inaugural year, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
Tim Fennell, Director of Travel Texas, described “Corpus Christi is a hallmark of Gulf Coast tourism,” citing the city’s ability to provide memorable experiences. Governor Abbott stated that "travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193.8 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state." Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa said, "Corpus Christi is a beautiful tourist destination with much to offer, including its natural beauty, museums, sports teams, great places to eat, and much more," while Senator Adam Hinojosa noted its cultural, educational, and ecological significance. Representative Todd Hunter discussed the impact of tourism on economic growth and job creation, as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
Meredith Darden from Visit Corpus Christi discussed the pride within the local hospitality community following the city's recognition. Mayor Paulette Guajardo and Visit Corpus Christi Board Chair Richard Lomax also expressed gratitude for the designation, which reflects collective efforts to promote the city as a top travel destination. The certification program targets local governments and nonprofits involved in tourism promotion, providing resources, strategies, and support from Travel Texas and other state initiatives to enhance tourism efforts.
