A Corvallis teenager was taken into custody on Monday after an emailed bomb threat targeted an Albany school. As reported by Oregon Live, the 17-year-old's actions resulted in a first-degree disorderly conduct charge, according to the Albany Police Department. The identity of the minor has not been disclosed by law enforcement officials.
Investigations into the threats initially suggested that the source of the email may have been outside the country; however, Albany Police Department officials eventually homed in on the Corvallis teen as a suspect, as per a report by KATU. In executing a search warrant, detectives seized multiple electronic devices belonging to the youth, but they were unable to locate any explosive materials at the residence.
The operation was a collaborative effort involving the Albany Police Department and Oregon State Police, who received gratitude for their assistance. According to KPIC, no evidence of actual explosives was found among the items taken into custody. The involved teen is currently being held at Linn-Benton Juvenile Detention Center on two counts of first-degree disorderly conduct.
The Greater Albany Public Schools district expressed appreciation for the prompt actions of law enforcement, which ensured the safety of the schools' students and faculty. The teen, now in juvenile detention, awaits further legal proceedings. Albany PD has not disclosed whether the motives behind the bomb threat have been determined, or if any additional suspects are under investigation.
