Dave Lewis Appointed as New Director of Fort Worth Park & Recreation DepartmentSource: City of Fort Worth, Texas

Fresh leadership is set to take the helm of the Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department as Dave Lewis steps into the role of director, tasked with invigorating the city's parks and recreation scene. With over 16 years of experience guiding his vision, Lewis is set to assume his new responsibilities on February 17 after a comprehensive nationwide search pinpointed him as the ideal candidate.

Lewis, no stranger to the City of Fort Worth's municipal workings, climbed the ranks since 2019 through positions such as assistant director of the Golf and Athletics Division, interim director, and deputy director. In his previous stint, he managed administration alongside golf, athletics, and recreation activities. Jesica McEachern, Assistant City Manager, heralded his dedication and leadership “Throughout this process, we searched for someone who could bring a bold vision to further enhance our parks, community centers, aquatic facilities and natural spaces. We found it in Dave’s passion for our community, leadership and dedication,” according to the City of Fort Worth.

Before his tenure in Fort Worth, Lewis contributed to the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma, Washington, where he also held a deputy director position. He steps into shoes left by Richard Zavala, a venerable figure retiring after decades at the helm since 1992. As for his vision, Lewis anticipates launching a new chapter for the park system, underpinned by upcoming strategic initiatives. “I am excited to usher in a new era for the Park & Recreation Department and look forward to sharing details of a new vision for the park system,” Lewis told the City of Fort Worth.
