A Delray Beach man, identified as Jason Ronzka, faces felony battery charges after allegedly assaulting his disabled elderly mother, who uses a wheelchair, at a bus stop, authorities said. CBS12 reported that the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputies witnessed the incident while on patrol and noticed the victim, suffering from ailments including ALS and possible dementia, with multiple bleeding scabs on her left arm.
Upon further investigation, which included reviewing nearby surveillance footage, deputies observed Ronzka forcefully grabbing his mother's arm and striking her on the forehead; following the incident, the woman was transported to Delray Medical Center for her wounds, this information was detailed in the criminal probable cause affidavit, and following the review of the evidence Ronzka was detained, according to officials reports. Stating after his arrest, Ronzka admitted that he hit his mother because she would not listen to him and he was unable to stop her wheelchair by other means, deputies claim.
BocaNewsNow noted that Ronzka's arrest adds to a growing tally of arrests at Kings Point Delray Beach; he is the 54th resident arrested since 2023 with charges ranging from domestic assault to DUI and more. Ronzka, from the Burgandy section, remains in custody on a $10,000 bond, highlighting a persistent issue in an otherwise senior-living community that has seen more arrests than any other in south Palm Beach County.
The incident raises concerns as it aligns with a troubling pattern in the Kings Point community where the rate of resident involvement in criminal activity is notably high, with accusations ranging from sexual assault to drug crimes while this specific instance of alleged battery against a vulnerable senior citizen by her own son particularly underscores the complexities of caregiver stress and potential abuse among the elderly.
