A 60-year-old Detroit man was apprehended by St. Clair Shores police following a reported purse snatching and carjacking incident outside a Kroger grocery store. Authorities were alerted to the altercation yesterday morning. The suspect is accused of confronting a 64-year-old woman as she exited her vehicle, leading to a tug-of-war over her purse, ClickOnDetroit reported.

According to police, after a bystander intervened, the man absconded with another bag belonging to the victim. Subsequently, in a bold move, he seized control of a nearby car that was left running, inside which a 61-year-old man sat in the passenger seat, as WWJ Newsradio described. The suspect threatened the passenger with violence and then drove south on Harper Avenue. About a mile away, a scuffle broke out at a Mobil gas station leading the alleged carjacker to flee on foot.

Officials managed to locate the suspect inside a Walgreens next to the gas station and placed him under arrest. Witnesses reported observing the suspect with what appeared to be a bloodied face, when he exited the vehicle near the gas station, though police did not specify any injuries during the incident, according to Macomb Daily. It remains unclear whether the two victims were connected in any way.
