Douglas County’s District 3 is getting a cleanup boost with a new anti-litter campaign. Commissioner Martin Raxton is encouraging residents to take pride in their community and keep the streets clean. According to the county's official announcement, 16 signs promoting community pride and environmental care have been placed along Chapel Hill Road, Annewakee Road, and Dorsett Shoals Road to kick off the campaign.
The move comes in response to the increasing problem of litter along the county’s roadways. Collaboration is at the heart of this initiative, with involvement from both City of Douglasville and Douglas County departments. "Litter doesn’t just tarnish the appearance of our community—it diminishes our shared pride and sense of belonging," Commissioner Raxton stated, as noted by the county's release.
Jonathan Lewis, an External Affairs Specialist for Douglas County, added “Keep Douglas County Beautiful believes that every small action contributes to a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant community. By coming together as neighbors, leaders, and environmental stewards, we can create lasting change and preserve the beauty of our County for generations to come,” Lewis explained. Suleman Rana from Douglas County’s Transportation Services Division laid out the challenges faced by the DOT Maintenance team, stating that the fight against litter is draining the county’s resources, as mentioned on the county's website.
Raxton's vision extends beyond mere clean-up. The initiative aims to instill a deeper sense of pride and accountability within the local populace. "This initiative isn’t just about picking up trash—it’s about building a community that cares," he emphasized. The Commissioner made it clear that ignoring the message will come with serious penalties, assuring that strict consequences will support the campaign's inspirational signs, as per the county's announcement.
To get the community involved, the anti-litter campaign is offering numerous participation opportunities through local organizations, and even a chance to “Adopt A Spot” in Douglas County. Residents eager to take part in the uplifting environmental action can learn more through the Douglas County website or by reaching out to the Constituent Services Department. Meanwhile, businesses and community programs are also encouraged by Commissioner Raxton to take pride in their local environment and contribute to a culture of cleanliness.
