
An incident of violence disrupted a youth soccer game in the Oakleaf neighborhood last Friday, resulting in the shooting of a juvenile. The Clay County Sheriff's Office reported to News4Jax that the altercation occurred outside the Oakleaf Plantation Athletic Center near Plantation Oaks Boulevard around 5:45 p.m.
The sheriff's office described the shooting as a drive-by, where they found approximately 30 people at the soccer field when they arrived, according to First Coast News. The juvenile was hit in the arm and thankfully, the injury was reported as non-life-threatening.
Detectives are diligently working to untangle the series of events by interviewing witnesses. As of now, no suspect is in custody, and the authorities continue to piece together the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The Sheriff’s Office urges those with information about the incident to contact CCSO dispatch at 904-529-5900.
While the investigation presses on, officials have stated that the incident seems to be an isolated one, with no further threat to the community looming, reported by Action News Jax. The Clay County Sheriff's Office has yet to release the age of the child injured in the drive-by shooting or any detailed description of the suspects involved in the incident.
