Homewood became the site of a single-vehicle collision that required the response of Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS units earlier today, around 11:30 a.m. The accident occurred on the 7200 block of Penn Avenue, where the driver, described as an adult male, crashed his vehicle into a light pole after reportedly losing control at a high speed. The City of Pittsburgh's official website published details of the incident yesterday.
Onlookers who witnessed the incident informed the police that the driver could not maintain control of his vehicle due to his speed, leading to the unfortunate collision. As a consequence of the violent impact, the driver sustained severe injuries. Pittsburgh EMS transported him to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The Collision Investigation Unit has since taken charge of the inquiry into the cause of the crash. The ongoing investigation will likely dissect the circumstances surrounding the driver's loss of control and the subsequent impact with the light pole as they try to piece together what happened during those critical moments leading up to the collision.
