The City of Dunwoody is calling on its citizens to nominate local environmental champions for the Sustainability Hero Awards. This award, established in 2012 by Dunwoody's Sustainability Committee, celebrates those who have demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainable initiatives and practices, recognizing their hard work and positive influence on the environment, according to a recent announcement from the city's official website.
Nominations for the 2024 award cycle are now open until March 6. The award seeks to honor both individuals and organizations that have to tirelessly work to reduce their environmental footprint and promote sustainability within the Dunwoody community. "True heroes are those who work tirelessly to protect our planet and inspire others to join them on the journey towards a sustainable future," Dunwoody Sustainability Committee Chair Colin Mey said, as noted by the city's official announcement.
Residents and local entities are encouraged to participate by submitting a nominee through an online form provided by the city. The selected winners will be determined by the Sustainability Committee and are set to be announced sometime in April. Nominees must be residents or part of businesses within the city limits or have a clear connection to sustainability efforts in Dunwoody. Last year's recognition went to Jason Metzger and Oak Avenue Landscaping, notable for their contributions to local sustainability.
The Sustainability Committee of Dunwoody meets on a monthly basis with the mission to encourage both the city and its residents to actively work towards lessening their environmental impact. This involves promoting resource efficiency and conducting public education and outreach centered around sustainability. Interested parties can learn more about the criteria for the awards and submit their nominations by visiting the city’s website and accessing the nomination form online.
