Earlier today, residents of Durham found Guess Road closed between Duke Homestead Road and Carver Street due to a water main break. The ABC11 report indicated that the Durham Police Department had to shut down the road as crews worked to repair the damage.
Commuters faced significant disruptions with both directions of the thoroughfare out of commission. According to the Durham Police, the closure was necessary to ensure safety and manage repairs which were anticipated to take around 10 hours, WRAL shared. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes to circumvent the area.
The water main break was not just an inconvenience but posed an immediate challenge for local water supply and traffic conditions. The incident prompted a quick response from emergency crews and utility workers, who worked diligently to resolve the situation.
In an effort to keep the public informed, Durham Police also took to social media, advising the community about the break and the expected duration of the road closure. "It may take up to 10 hours to repair the water main and safely reopen Guess Road," the department said in a social media release, CBS17 reported. With the advisory in place, local traffic was directed to use detours until the road could be reopened to through traffic.
As of this writing, there had been no reports of injuries or property damage as a direct result of the water main break.
