Food insecurity remains a pressing issue for many, but efforts to alleviate this came to fruition as the El Paso Community College (EPCC) teamed up once again with El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, this time drawing a large crowd at their Transmountain Campus for a 'Grocery Giveaway.' The event marked the fourth collaboration between the two entities and provided essential food items to several hundred attendees, including students, faculty, staff, and broader community members.
This latest installment follows previous initiatives at other EPCC campuses, the Valle Verde Campus in July of 2024, at Mission del Paso in October, and at the Rio Grande campus in December, which all aimed to address the hardship of food scarcity among the college's population and its neighbors. The distribution included a variety of groceries such as fruit, vegetables, chips, potatoes, canned goods, and liquids that were made available free of charge, demonstrating a sustained commitment to community support and nutritional well-being.
Expressions of gratitude were prevalent, as reported by EPCC News, with attendees like Rose Seip sharing, "This is very nice, I'm actually doing this for my son and his wife, so I volunteered to come for them, and I think it's wonderful." Similarly, Donna Huskey voiced her contentment, "The amount of food is very nice. This program is wonderful, this is the first time I have tried it," highlighting the impact of these events on individuals and families.
