
El Paso Community College (EPCC) recently received a tangible vote of confidence in its efforts to boost the local workforce. According to EPCC News, the Texas Workforce Commission's Skills Development Fund granted $137,960 to the college's Workforce and Continuing Education division. The 12-month grant is earmarked for employee training at Vinton Steel, LLC, covering over 5,100 hours of instruction aimed at enhancing the skills of 65 new and current workers.
The training programs are designed to address the skill gaps in high-demand occupations such as Electrical Maintenance Management, Industrial Technicians, and Process Engineers. Dr. William Serrata, EPCC President, highlighted the significance of these partnerships, "We are committed to building the workforce by ensuring our graduates are career-ready and helping workers upskill in their current jobs so businesses in our community can thrive," he said, as per EPCC News. The grant also aims to contribute to the regional economy by attracting more high-skill jobs.
During the check presentation, Commissioner Representing Labor Mr. Alberto Treviño, III from the Texas Workforce Commission, joined by EPCC administrators and representatives from state legislative offices, emphasized the far-reaching impact of such initiatives. "This is a key component to a successful workforce, and a strong economy," Commissioner Treviño said, as obtained by EPCC News. He also commended the collaborative efforts between the educational and private sectors for bolstering the community.
The funded courses at EPCC include a diverse range of subjects, from Basics of Electricity and Powerflow to HVAC Fundamentals, aimed to bridge the skills gap and elevate employee capabilities. "As employees gain specialized training, they produce a higher quality of services and products, which boosts community prosperity, reduces unemployment, and supports long-term economic stability in for our entire region," EPCC Associate Vice President of Workforce and Continuing Education Blayne Primozich stated, as reported by EPCC News.
