The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office made an educational impression last Thursday at Nolan Richardson Middle School's Career Day, connecting with over 300 young students about the realities of law enforcement work. According to a social media post by Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, deputies took the day to enlighten kids between the ages of 11 and 14 on what the gig entails.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, attendees received a crash course in being a deputy, the duties they perform, the equipment they handle, and crucial issues like gun safety and drug awareness, because bridging the gap between citizens and law enforcement often starts with the younger generation understanding the roles officers play in the community. Alongside practical lessons, the deputies also promoted the Post 2005 Explorer Program, an initiative that offers hands-on law enforcement experiences, offering youth a glimpse at, and gateway into, a potential future in uniform.

Sheriff Ugarte expressed the office's dedication to "mentoring and educating the next generation, fostering community engagement, and encouraging young minds to explore careers in public service," as per El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
