The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is ushering in a series of road closures starting today, expected to last through the following week. The closures will impact I-10 East at Redd Road and I-10 West at Mesa Street on different days for varying durations. The scheduled 49-hour freeway closure will begin at 4 a.m. and conclude at 5 a.m. Monday, as reported by KFOX-TV. With significant stretches of these highways closing, TxDOT has advised motorists to take alternative detours.
According to KFOX-TV, road travelers should prepare for the closure of I-10 East at Redd Road by detouring through Exit 9, South Desert Boulevard, and re-entering the highway past Mesa Street. Meanwhile, I-10 West will be inaccessible at Mesa Street, requiring a detour via Exit 11, North Desert Boulevard, before rejoining I-10 past the Redd Road blockade. These road obstructions coincide with a larger weeklong initiative that includes the Super Bowl weekend, where TXDOT has urged fans to drive safely and plan for sober transportation.
Today from 4 a.m. until Sunday, February 9 at 4 a.m., Redd Road will be shut down between North Desert Boulevard and South Desert Boulevard. KVIA has detailed the specific detours for eastbound and westbound drivers that involve driving onto South Desert Boulevard, utilizing the Mesa Street turnaround, and then onto North Desert Boulevard, to circumvent the closed sections. The reason for these closures is to facilitate the installation of a bridge deck by crews.
These disruptions will extend further into the week, with Redd Road East and West seeing alternating lane reductions near South Desert Boulevard and North Desert Boulevard from Monday, February 10, through Saturday, February 15, as crews carry out electrical work. According to KTSM, additional stretches of I-10 East and West will be reduced to one lane at intervals between Vinton Road and Transmountain Road, and again between Mesa Street and Redd Road, while retaining walls are constructed, and earthwork is conducted during the same period as the Redd Road work at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
