
An incident on February 3rd, involving the El Paso Police and a civilian named Angel Wolfgang Trevizo, ended with an officer firing his weapon and Trevizo being wounded, according to El Paso Police Department. The confrontation began when a police officer, a six-year veteran checking a traffic hazard, saw Trevizo exit his vehicle to confront another driver at an intersection; Trevizo subsequently ignored the officer's commands and almost hit him with his vehicle in his attempt to drive away, leading to the officer discharging their firearm and striking Trevizo.
Trevizo received immediate medical attention from the responding officers and was further treated at a local hospital for his injuries, following the incident, the El Paso Police Department along with Texas Rangers and the department's own Shooting Review Team carried out separate investigations into the events that unfolded. A warrant for Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant was issued with Judge Myers setting the bond at $100,000, after his release from the hospital Trevizo was arrested and booked on this charge.
As is standard when an officer discharges a weapon in the line of duty, multiple inquiries were swiftly launched to dissect the layers of this case, these probes aim to unravel the tight knot of actions and decisions that led to the near miss for the officer and the subsequent wounding of Trevizo.
