El Paso drivers take note as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced road closures affecting major thoroughfares, which will likely impact traffic flow this weekend and beyond. According to KTSM, starting on Saturday, February 1 at 4 a.m. through Monday, February 3 at 5 a.m., a significant 49-hour closure on I-10 West at Mesa Street and I-10 East at Redd Road will be in place. KTSM details detour routes for drivers, suggesting that westbound motorists take Exit 11 and use North Desert Boulevard to return to I-10 past Transmountain Road, while eastbound traffic can exit at Redd Road, continue on South Desert Boulevard, and re-enter I-10 past Mesa Street.
As reported by KVIA, during the same weekend closure Redd Road will be shut down between North Desert Boulevard and South Desert Boulevard. Eastbound traffic must detour by turning right on South Desert Boulevard, using the turnaround at Mesa Street, and continuing on North Desert Boulevard, whereas westbound traffic will turn right on North Desert Boulevard, left on Artcraft Road, left on South Desert Boulevard, and finally, right on Redd Road. KVIA notes that the closures are due to TxDOT working on retainer wall and earthwork projects, as well as the installation of the bridge deck.
Throughout the following week, from Monday, February 3 to Saturday, February 8, TxDOT will continue various projects including alternating lane closures on Redd Road for electrical work, and on I-10 between Vinton Road and Transmountain Road, as well as between Mesa Street and Redd Road for additional earthwork and bridge deck preparation, as indicated by both KTSM and KVIA. Motorists are advised to plan for potential delays and to consider alternate routes where possible during these hours.
Adding to the transportation tapestry of interruptions, TxDOT's work on the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project necessitates additional closures from Saturday, February 1 at 7 a.m. to Monday, February 3 at 5 a.m., according to KTSA. The Loop 1604 eastbound exit ramp to Hausman Road, the right lane on the main lanes from the exit ramp to Kyle Seale Parkway, and the left lane on the eastbound frontage road from the exit ramp to Kyle Seale Parkway will be closed for barrier relocation. Once the weekend closure has lifted, travelers will gain access to the new eastbound entrance ramp from Bandera Road.
