Elderly Pedestrian Killed in Valentine's Day Collision Involving Two Vehicles in OxnardSource: Google Street View

A tragic turn of events unfolded on Valentine's Day morning in Oxnard when a 70-year-old male pedestrian was fatally struck in a traffic collision involving two vehicles. The Oxnard Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 6:06 a.m. at the intersection of Hueneme Road and Salvador Drive. Emergency Medical Services, responding to the call, found the victim lying on the roadway and quickly transported him to the Ventura County Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

The Oxnard Police Department has released information regarding the drivers involved in the collision: 45-year-old Jose Orozco Torres and 39-year-old Nicolas Palacios Avila, both Oxnard residents. The pedestrian, whose name remains withheld pending notification of kin, was struck first by Torres's 2000 Toyota Tacoma and subsequently by Avila's 2006 Toyota Matrix. According to the Oxnard Police Department, neither speed, alcohol, nor drugs seem to have been contributing factors in the collision, and the investigation continues.

Both drivers stopped their vehicles immediately after the incident and cooperated with the authorities. Torres pulled over to the right shoulder, as did Avila following the second collision. "Jose Orozco Torres immediately pulled to the right shoulder and parked. Before he could check on the subject, a Toyota Matrix, driven by Nicolas Palacios Avila, also struck the subject," stated the news release from the Oxnard Police Department.

Oxnard PD's Traffic Investigator Alexis Arellano is leading the inquiry into the fatal event. The department urges anyone with information about the collision to get in touch. You can contact Officer Arellano directly at (805) 385-7749 or through email at [email protected].
