In a recent celebration of Black History Month, the Ellis County African American Hall of Fame and Museum held its annual Hall of Fame Induction and Scholarship Luncheon. Chief Carl Smith was honored to speak at the significant event, as reported by the Midlothian Police Department on their social media page. Taking place at the Waxahachie First United Methodist Church Family Life Center, Smith was accompanied by Police Commander Byron Stewart and MPD Victims Advocate Coordinator Jamie M. Singleton.
The gathering recognized the 2025 inductees and scholarship recipients and honored a trailblazer in local law enforcement. The museum paid tribute to former Midlothian Police Sergeant Jack Jackson, the first African American to serve as a police officer and later a supervisor in the community during the 1970s.
Each year, the Ellis County African American Hall of Fame and Museum seeks to commemorate the past and inspire the future.
