The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation has announced the transport of modular homes for wildfire survivors, which will be hitting the road starting Wednesday evening. These homes are headed to the Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina, so you'll want to plan your travel times accordingly.
The move begins at 8 p.m. today, February 19, with six trucks transporting homes from Kahului to Lahaina. Additional trips will take place Thursday and Friday at 9:30 p.m., likely causing more traffic delays. The trucks will travel along Kahului Beach Road, Hāna Highway, and Honoapi‘ilani Highway, so expect slowdowns and full stops in both directions during these times.
For real-time updates on the schedule and any changes during the transport, follow HDOT’s Facebook and Twitter pages. This operation is complex, and adjustments may be made as things progress, according to HDOT's announcement.
